The following are the core beliefs of Braeswood Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
The Bible + The Trinity
THE BIBLE
We hold that the Bible, encompassing both the Old and New Testaments, is the definitive Word of God. It is solely the ultimate authority for establishing all doctrinal truths. God is the primary source for each of the 66 books within the Bible.
Through His Spirit, God masterfully prepared each individual involved in creating the final version of the sacred, inspired, and canonical text we refer to as the Bible for their specific contributions. God's selection of ancient individuals responsible for writing the books of the Bible was fully aligned with His objectives for documenting revelation for humanity in the future.
Under God’s careful preparation and guidance, the contributions of each individual involved in the final composition of the biblical text resulted in a completely reliable account of the truths God intended to disclose to humanity.
(Jeremiah 25:13; Proverbs 30:5; Luke 1:70; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
THE TRINITY
We affirm our belief in one God, an eternal being who exists in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. Each of these persons is fully divine, possessing equal power and glory, and they exist in perfect harmony for all eternity.
Together, they represent the fullness of God's nature and purpose, demonstrating a profound relationship that defines our faith.
(Genesis 1:26; Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 3:16-17)

Jesus Christ + The Virgin Birth
JESUS CHRIST
We believe Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. On earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on the cross for humanity, and thus atoned for our sins through the shedding of His blood.
According to the scriptures, He rose from the dead on the third day, ascended to the Father's right hand, and will return again in power and glory.
VIRGIN BIRTH
We believe Jesus of Nazareth was conceived by God the Father, through the Holy Spirit, in the virgin Mary’s womb; therefore, He is the incarnate Son of God, the Christ, the Word made flesh.
(Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18, 23-25; Luke 1:27-35; John 1:1-3, 14)

Resurrection + Redemption
RESURRECTION
We believe Jesus Christ was physically resurrected from the dead in a glorified body on the third day following His death on the cross and ascended into heaven, where He sits at the right hand of the Father.
(Luke 24:36-39; John 2:19-22, 20:26-28, 21:4; Romans 8:34, 1 Cor 15:3-9, 17-19; Colossians 3:1)
REDEMPTION
We believe every human being was created in God's image to represent His rule throughout the earth. Through voluntary disobedience, man sinned and fell. Consequently, humanity is lost and needs to be brought back into a relationship with God. Every human being apart from Jesus Christ is thus unable to avoid sin. The only hope for this redemption is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, apart from any human deed or merit.
(Genesis 1:26-27, 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21)

Salvation + Sanctification
SALVATION
We believe man is saved by grace alone through personal faith in Jesus Christ because salvation is a gift from God and not a result of human effort. When we embrace the gospel, we are made new creations by the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit, who lives in us and compels us to turn from sin in every area of our lives and to live a life of complete loyalty to Jesus Christ, our King.
(Romans 4:1-5; 10:9-10; Acts 3:19, 16:31; Galatians 2:16, 3:8; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 9:22)
SANCTIFICATION
We believe in sanctification, the ongoing process of yielding to God’s Word and the Holy Spirit to develop a mature Christ-like character. The Christian can live a godly life through the Holy Spirit's active, present work and daily engagement with the Lord in Bible study and prayer.
(Romans 8:29, 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 3:18, 6:14-18; 1 Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23; Hebrews 2:11)

Holy Spirit Baptism + Gifts
BAPTISM WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT
All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Spirit, and fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. This was the everyday experience of all in the early Christian Church. With it comes the enduement of power for life and service, the bestowment of the gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry. We also affirm that the baptism of believers in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance.
(Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Acts 1:5, 2:1-4, 17, 38-39, 8:14-17, 10:38, 44-47, 11:15-17, 19:1-6; 1 Cor 12:13)

Water Baptism + Communion
TWO ORDINANCES
We believe that the ordinances of the Church, by the command of Jesus Christ, are water baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper (Communion), both of which are administered to those who are born again by the Spirit of God.
WATER BAPTISM
The Scriptures command the ordinance of baptism by immersion. All who repent and believe on Christ as Saviour and Lord are to be baptized. Thus, they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and have also been raised with Him to walk in the newness of life.
(Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16, Acts 10:47,48, Romans 6:4)
THE LORD’S SUPPER (COMMUNION)
The Lord’s Supper is a unique and sacred time when the body of Christ gathers together in God's presence to partake of the elements of bread and grape juice, which symbolize the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. This act is both a personal remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice and a communal reaffirmation of our shared faith and devotion to Him.
(Matthew 26:26-29, 28:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38, 8:12, 36-38, 10:47-48; 1 Corinthians 10:16, 11:23-26; 1 Peter 3:18-22)

Marriage + Sexuality
MARRIAGE AND SEXUALITY
The Holy Scriptures affirm that marriage is a sacred institution designed exclusively for one man and one woman. This union is celebrated as a profound and divine commitment. Any relationships or practices that fall outside this definition are viewed as contrary to these teachings and considered sinful.
(Gen 2:18-25; Matthew 19:4-6, 1 Corinthians 6:18, 1 Thessalonians 4:3, Romans 1:26-27, Deuteronomy 23:1)

Heaven + Hell + Second Coming
HEAVEN AND HELL
Heaven is the place where God dwells, a place that will be reunited with a new earth at the end of the age. The new heavens and the new earth are the eternal dwelling places for all believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Here, we will fulfill our original purpose, ruling and reigning over God’s creation with Him and our Lord, Jesus Christ. This role of rulership underscores our significance in God's plan. Unbelievers, however, have no share in the eternal life on the new earth but are instead eternally separated from God.
(Matthew 25:41; John 14:1-3; 17:24; 1 Cor 15:26; Romans 8:18-25; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 9:27, 11:16; 1 Peter 1:4; Revelation 20:12-15, 21:8)
SECOND COMING
We hold firm to the belief that Jesus Christ will physically, visibly, and gloriously return to earth for the second time to establish His kingdom. This will occur at an undisclosed date, a testament to our unwavering faith in His promise.
(Matthew 24:30, 26:63-64; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8; Revelation 1:7)
